A little look into our wedding day,
Set on the beautiful sea front of Altinkum in Didim Turkey,
We tied the knott in a nightclub that we absolutely loved and made so many memories in throughout our time together. This is the place that held both our hearts together and was owned by a very special friend who was also a big part of our life’s.
It was out most favourite place in Altinkum. The club was called Palm Beach and it was a lovely little small club with lovely big veranda. This is where we sat down and said our “I do’s” in front of all our family and friends……well actually, saying that…..
there was my main family, none of Cens family and other then around 20 of my invited guests there were around 30 other people there who is never even met before in my entire life !
They do that in Turkey!
They crash anyone’s wedding and sit and gorp at the bride 👰🏼 😂😂 I’m not even joking!!
Oh plus my drink kept disappearing as one of the unknown guests was minesweeping! Cheeky twat! Oh and all the favours that our special friends spent all week making and 2 baskets of expensive bayram style chocolates to give out to the guests had also all been stolen!
What a fab wedding lol.
it was very intimate (apart from the strangers that is) the registrar came to our venue and she sat down and did the important bits and the register with us.
Me we got married at 8pm at night because it was temps of 40 degrees during the day and just way way way too hot to wear anything other then a swimming cozzie.
As I walked around the square under the club before goingmim and up the steps to the club I followed the traditional full Kurdish drums thing they blow in to make that obvious Kurdish high pitched sound (I’m so sorry I don’t know the name of it) I walked around for. While in a circle (you know for everyone to see and for the effect of the wedding) all the passing holiday makers stoppedmon their tracks and congratulated me and asked me to stop and pose for a picture with them. I felt a right melon but on the other hand it was very sweet and felt nice to have a bit of attention on for me.
As I entered the venue with my two big brothers at either side of me waiting to give me away to my fiancé, the sound of the wedding march came on.
I chose the very beautiful American wedding entry song of cannon in D By johann patchelbel and they handed me over to cengiz who was stood looking quite like a deer in head lights squeezing my mams hand, god bless him.
We did our thing with the registrar (yes I stood on Cens foot first after the signing of the register!! Muuhhaaahhhaaa this is a tradition in turkey and whoever does it first get to wear the trousers in this marriage) good job I won really cos that’s quite fitting 😌 sorry babe!
Then we did the traditional uk version of the first dance, our song was Promise you by Nsync. We did the cake cutting….. cake!!! Now there’s a whole other blog – watch this space and check a later blog.
we did speeches and thanked everyone for coming, as you do. We said our vows to each other in English and had my Mam cut the red ribbon that was tied to each of our rings binding us together as one.
We then did the Turkish tradition of the red saches where people come up and pin paper money and gold on to you (I got no gold!! Just saying)
cant leave out the best bit, yep you all know what’s coming……………the halay!!!!
There’s me and cengiz in the middle of a huge ring of every single one of our wedding guests (strangers included) doing the halay around us, it was then our turn, so I hitched my long, thick dress up and bundled it all into one arm while I tried hard to dance to halay.
This was difficult for me as it was still around 30 degrees (even at night) and my legs were just absolutely swollen. Elephantitis swollen though. It’s a condition of which I started to suffer from with in the heat and flying. Like water retention but it’s not exactly that. (It’s still undiagnosed) Anyway enough about the Debby downer part.
Everyone danced the night away and all head of in different directions and said the congratulations and goodbyes.
Me and Cen sat on palm beach balcony still in our wedding attire in the company of our 2 best friends who were our whitnesses, best man and made of honour. I had our best mans uncle come up and buy me a jack Daniels and red bull (yes it was together in one glass and it was really rather bloody lovely).
We downed our drinks and headed to our favourite late night bars in our wedding gear. We sweated our little titties off but it was bloody fabulous! We were congratulated by a million stranger, we were given free drink and was bought a lot of drinks by friend and people we’d just spoken to that night. It was honestly fantastic!! We had he best night out our lives!
we arrived home in our rented wedding car that our best man drove for us and dropped us off Home at 4am!!!
With my mascara ran down my cheeks and my false eye last stuck to my chin, We both fell through the door with giggle while reminiscing about the eventful day, We literally ripped off our wedding dress and suit getting all fruity!! We jumped in the bed and immediately started knocking out them big fat zzzzzz’z. 👍🏻 yep, we were absolutely knackered!!
What a fantastic day, best memories have to be the morning-dinner time of the day when o was shouting and screaming at cengiz down the phone as he was sorting out the flowers, balloons and wedding car but was doing it all in slow motion – you know the TURKISH TIME crap!!
Then I spent the most wonderful hour or so getting ready in my mams hotel room with her and it’s such a lovely memory as she was so proud bless her. My Mam is my absolute world and my best friend. She a very beautiful and inspirational woman and I have always admired her.
